FIRST WEEKLY REPORT


Bishkek

Monitoring is conducted by Public Association "Internews" and Establishment "CIMERA in Kyrgyzstan with assistance from the Organization on Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Monitoring duration period: 6 weeks (from 31 of January to 14 of March 2005).

Monitoring covers 150 print and 34 TV/Radio stations in Bishkek and seven oblasts. This includes all state, private and departmental media outlets, currently working on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Methodology is based on analysis of quantity and qualitative data of print and electronic media contents broadcasted and published in the indicated period.

Eight hours of prime-time is monitored daily on electronic media in this period: TV from 17.00 to 01.00; Radio - from to 15.00.

All issues of daily, weekly and monthly newspapers (print media) are monitored in this period.

Monitoring is aimed at authentic observation of the process of media performance during pre-election campaign; definition of parameters press and broadcast allocation between candidates to the parliament and measurement of participation of state, public and political structures during pre-election campaign.

Quantitative data is reflected in seconds for electronic media and lines for print media.

Qualitative data appears in the tone of the coverage: positive, neutral, negative.

The statistical margin of error is allowed within 5 seconds for electronic media and 10 lines for print media.
